I can't agree with him about the status of EU citizens. Obviously we're not going to send 'em back, but we can't offer an unequivocal guarantee of their status without similar reciprocal guarantees of the status of British citizens in the EU. That would somewhat undermine our bargaining position, don't you think?

We can say that it is our most fervent wish that EU citizens currently in the UK will remain here with the full rights of citizens assuming that reciprocal arrangements are made vis-a-vis our citizens currently residing and working in the EU.
