Wouldn't bother me in the slightest if they were starting from scratch but given the story arc in the Craig films very much brought in his upbringing (Scottish heritage in Skyfall, his adoption in Spectre) it would seem a very strange move.

Of course, I would enjoy the handwringing, not at all racist reaction from the Daily Mail commenters. My favourite from last time, was "What if they got a white person to play Martin Luther King - there would be an uproar."

Yeah, I would argue that the clamour from middle-class white liberal types to make him black is equally racist in its way. It's motivated purely by a tokenistic desire to have a bit of iconoclastic casting against type so that they can feel good about themselves and call anyone who objects a racist. It has nothing to do with the merits or otherwise of the actor in question.
