Mathieu Debuchy has been ruled out of the European Championships this summer after picking up a thigh injury at his loan club Bordeaux.
The French international fell behind Hector Bellerin in the Arsenal pecking order this season, and from the start of the new campaign was agitating for a move away, citing his desire to represent France in the tournament, played on home soil, as the key factor.
He moved to the Ligue 1 side on deadline day in January but has had in injury hit time there, making just nine league appearances for his loan club since his arrival.
In truth, having lost the confidence of Didier Deschamps, Debuchy was something of an outside bet to regain a place in the France squad. Bacary Sagna is expected to be first choice with Lyon’s Christophe Jallet providing back-up.
The 30-year-old will likely be sold by Arsene Wenger when he returns to London.
