I've said a million times that we need to play home games against weaker opposition with a 4-4-2.

You play 5 midfielders to gain control of midfield but these teams give the midfield to you and camp in front of their penalty area. Having two guys in the box gives you more of a chance.

So that's mesut on the left wing then?

Frankly I don't care if it's taxi for Mesut.

But it's a squad game. Not every game is suitable for every player.

That's the trouble with Mesut. He's not a proper No.10 striker like Bergy who could play upfront in a 4-2-2.

But nor is he an attacking MF who could play in a two man MF, like Cesc could, or Rosicky or Santi.

So if you just have him as this creative genius, which he is, then you need to have 3 top forwards who make the most of the chances he creates, and a MF who can go past him and score as Rambo did in the first half of Ozzy's first season.

So with Mesut, you need the other 4 attacking players to all be goalscorers. We have one - Alexis. Yes, if we did have the front 3 scoring then we wouldn't have to worry that much that Santi doesn't score any more, as his creativity would be rewarded by making chances for the front 3 or using Mesut's intelligent running to give him the ball so he {Mesut} could make a goal for one of the forwards.

Basically, we're wasting Ozil until we get another 20+ a season winger and a 30+ striker.

Or we need Rambo to score lots like he did that half season as well as the striker and another scoring winger or CMF.

We are wasting one of the most skilful players we've ever had by surrounding him with Alexis + assorted donkeys.

Indeed, there's a few truths there. But really he needs more pace mainly, it shows Giroud up to be the one trick pony a bit. Which is a shame because he's a lovely pony.

It doesnt have to be 4-4-2, does it? We have other options. Plenty of better ones too. Just put a 4-4-2 team together in your head with our players now, as an execise.

3-5-2 would give us the perfect blend and sufficently accommodate everyone...

That move...the knock down with the two strikers combining has been sorely missed....Giroud does that all the time but none of the attacking midfielders have the killer instinct needed to finish it...it just gets recycled for more tippy tappy football...

The problem with 1 striker is to make it work we need runners from midfield but that just leaves us exposed at the back....there was a time when we solved the problem with Coquelin staying back but teams have worked out how to bypass him now....
