View Full Version : Apple and the FBI.

I'm not sure that I understand Apple's stance here, other than trying to maintain some sort of anti-establishment cool.

Should a judge issue a search warrant, and during the course of such a search, the FBI encounter a locked filing cabinet, syurely they are within their rights to open said filing cabinet and examine your data?

Why is the data on a telephone considered to be outside the law by Apple?

It would therefore make an insecure filing cabinet, which sort of defeats the point.

It's a straw man argument any way, only a rank simpleton would think the FBI cant crack a bloody iPhone.

oh

Sir Charlie of Nicholas

they'd open it for him without any fuss, surely?

I ask again. Why is data stored on a telephone different to data stored in a filing cabinet?

For example, you can't use it to break into a house looking for non-existent stolen narcotics or military-grade explosives and then, instead, book the chap for having an overdue library book on the premises.

Everyone wants a piece of the pie. Apple can play moral highground in keeping security 'for the good of the people' etc but ultimately just want to keep power in their hands.

As j says, it's just a public game from the FBI anyway.

Is 'overdue library book' a euphemism in your house, r?

You are telling me you seriously do not see the flaw in designing a backdoor vulnerability into something's operating system?

Sir Charlie of Nicholas
03-22-2016, 12:42 PM
On the other, the system is so utterly invulnerable that building a way in would be a terrible thing.

You've argued two different points in one sentence

It turns out if he'd invested the money he'd been given by his dad in an index linked account he would be richer than he is now.

:hehe: This is definitely the man we want as the leader of the free world

Have you never seen a filing cabinet, or what?

To prevent the book being stolen and then one having additional costs over and above the basic fee for late renewal.

Sir Charlie of Nicholas

in case they see something not covered by the warrant?

WHAT COBBLERS IS THIS?

Classic Jorge

Can you not see why building a backdoor into a product would be a bad idea? Not just for one party, for everyone.

It'd be bad for consumers, bad for apple and bad for the whole market in general. In fact, the only people this would benefit would be the FBI, who can get into the thing anyway.

and the lock on your filing cabinet is in grave danger of getting a 7.62 mm round through itself.

This is no time to worry about library fees.

Sir Charlie of Nicholas

That's what you're saying. The only people to benefit would be the FBI.

That seems a little odd to me.

I think the point that most people support him on the basis that he's a shrewd entrepreneur - obviously the fact he's a racist has nothing to do with anything - so the idea that he cant even outperform the stockmarket is rather amusing.

Overdue library fees can soon accumulate if you are not careful.

No, sw, the one with the TVs and the fruit machines is the bookie, and the one with the Guinness is the pub. The library is the one with books. Books. Bound collections of pages covered in type which often tell a oh never mind.

Apple don't have the software so they are being forced to write somethinmg that will make all apple phones less secure

had your stats shown that he was, in fact, a brilliant businessman, you would be better disposed towards him. When really what you meant was, had they shown that, you wouldn't have flagged them up at all in the first place.

Right.

You do realise there's no point hunting for evidence after you've already made your mind up, don't you?
