View Full Version : I'm torn with regard to Iain Duncan Smith.

On the one hand, his father was a fine pilot with 17 victories, 2 DSOs and 3 DFCs. (Is that some sort of record? 3 DFCs, for all love!)

Iain himself, of course, served in the Scots Guards.

On the other hand, he's Tottenham :-(

I mean, they're all simply 'scum' anyway, aren't they?

For what it's worth I suspect that it's more to do with the party's bizarre insistence on getting hung up on Europe; but as I am not privy to the inner workings of his mind, I couldn't say for sure.

They're in government, he's lying to the people he purports to represent.

Yes, they are scum, they've presided over one brutal cut after the other to the poorest and most vulnerable people in society and seemed very proud of their record. They've also said it's very important to do this so we can balance the books, the books have not been balanced and the national debt is still spiralling out of control.

Not so much so that they cant sell RBS off at a 22bn loss though.

Of course I believe it, it's not hyperbolic *******s, it's forcing ill and seriously disabled people to live in homeless hostels, to go without food and to be unable to afford to get to hospital or doctor's appointments.

All that at the same time as selling RBS off at a 22bn loss

welfare-dependency, rather than some people being dragged by the scruff of their necks back into work (through benefits cuts) while others fall through the cracks, and that this in no gives you the moral high-ground.

Classic Jorge
03-21-2016, 02:05 PM
But really it's the sick and disabled I'm worried about here. There's very little you can do in terms of picking someone up by the scruff of the neck if they cant actually walk.

What choice do these people have other than remain on perpetual benefits?

who have spent a lifetime on benefits due to being 'unwell' when all they suffer from is an aversion to getting up in the morning. the system has, in th epast, clearly been far too easy for these lazy *******s to exploit.

Anecdotes are not, of course, evidence, I suppose. But that works both ways.

If indeed we’re all in this together, then I don’t see why raspberries shouldn’t have to be a bit more judicious about how they spend their hand-outs, just as Charlie will sometimes resist the beluga when there’s a downtown

I knew a chap who'd been signed off for years because he had arthritis in his fingers. Of course, one couldn't see any evidence of this in day to day life, but he assured me that this 'arthritis' stopped him playing the guitar, and he couldn't do another job, since playing the guitar was what he wanted to do.

And the fact that it seems that these sactions are hitting people in genuine need, surely unfairly, also paints a pretty sorry picture.

Still, that's fine, we can afford to de-nationalise a bank at a 22bn loss because, you know, nationalised things are wrong.

Classic Jorge
03-21-2016, 02:24 PM

The situation in June of 2015 was such that the government was expected to have made an overall profit of some 14bn once all shares had been sold.

From a 14bn profit to a 22bn loss in 8 months is quite a swing in share prices.

I stayed in one in Venice where there must have been 50 f**king people in one dorm. It was like being in a concentration camp, only with more noxious gas :-(

Then in Monaco, my visit coincided with Feyenoord playing in the Super Cup Final. All their fans arrived on a day I happened to be wearing a piece of Arsenal clothing. A bunch of them marched into my dorm, clocked me laying on my bed and started singing “f**k off Arshhhnel”. Didn’t sleep well that night.
