View Full Version : Is that Aubameyang any good, and could we afford him? BBC says he's scored 33 goals this season.

I don't want AW out but I would like a shiny new striker who can score 30-40 a season. That would be nice.

We used to have Kanu and Skiltord on the bench. Or Ade, RVP and Eddie. If there's some Dortmunder who's banging in that many goals in Germany, and Bayern or the top two Dago clubs don't want him, and City and the Chavs have their No.9s already, why can't we get him? He scored against the Spuds so he's not a wrong'un.

More likely, imo. If anyone.

available any more? Is it cos of 4-3-3?

When there was 4-4-2, every club would have 3 decent CFs cos they would all get a chance.

But with 4-3-3, it's basically 1 No.9.

To find one with pace, strength, hold up play etc etc is getting harder and harder.

We also have a great no.10 but if he could score 10-15 a season like Bergy did then it would add so much more.

Why can't we have a decent striker. Wright and Bergy. Then Titi with Bergy and loads of other options. Then RVP.

Now we have Olly, Welbz, Feo and Joel. Put them all together and that would be the one great striker we need. Though actually, none of them are clinical enough.

Strikers don't; it's impossible to coach someone to score 300 goals anyway. Either they can do it, or they cannot.

the likes of Pires and Ljungberg we might not need another striker.

Even if and when they're all on the pitch together, you get the idea that we need an/another striker.

After all, how many non-MSN goals do Barcelona get? Goals from midfield are, as you suggest, a bonus, rather than the bedrock.

I try not to get on Wenger's case about it because it could simply be that we cannot afford a forward division like that, or anything like that.

I mean, rather than it being a tactical preference from the manager. When He had Henry and Bergkamp, He played them every game and they scored hatfuls, so ..

on 20 goals, there aren't many ahead of him in the premiership. Arsenal started going 4-5-1 the year we got to the CL final by the way.

I like strikers; I think their way works better.

Sterling 5 goals, Pedro 4 goals, Benteke 6 goals, Martial 7 goals, Firmino 6 goals

as of and according to an article dated feb 24th

Giroud 12m, 12 goals.

One can see His point, tbf.

So the players are there, but maybe they're not good enough so we don't look for them much and rather wait for Ramsey to go on another spree.

I don't really care how much they cost, only how good they are. Just imagine the uproar, though, if AW had bought Vardy in the summer.

I don't think Wenger Himself would care to sign someone like that, that's not why He built the Emirates. But if ever a top manager could pass off buying unheralded players, you'd have to think that manager would be Wenger, wouldn't you.

He's been doing just that since He got here, after all, and we've done very well out of it. All those managers who are constantly getting the sack and moaning about it wish they could do it so well too, I'll bet.
