You've gone native, la. I fully expect you to start saying alarming things about Jews any minute.

It's all Easter's fault - the date of Mother's Day rather than the holocaust or our league form. Usually closer to my mum's birthday in April so I have an excuse to forget it like when people have birthday's near Christmas

Similarly Father’s Day before accusations of me being anti-mothers are made.

Me and my ma had an agreement and I never bothered with it.

My mother has never had any interest in it and I doubt my father knows when Father's Day is - I certainly don't.

with the lads, usually in the streets; for the dollies, everyone gets dressed up to the nines up and then there's an enormous piss-up with the lads, usually at the posh French/Italian/whatever eaterie of the dollies' choice.

We don't bother save for the handmade cards the kids are forced to make in school.

"Regionally, it is also called men's day, Maennertag, or gentlemen's day, Herrentag. It is tradition for groups of males (young and old but usually excluding pre-teenage boys) to do a hiking tour with one or more smaller wagons, Bollerwagen, pulled by manpower.

"In the wagons are wine or beer (according to region) and traditional regional food, Hausmannskost. Many men use this holiday as an opportunity to get drunk. According to the Federal Statistical Office of Germany, alcohol-related traffic accidents multiply by three on this day. The tradition of getting drunk is especially prevalent in Eastern Germany."

No need for the flowers plus present plus going round and taking her out for lunch nonsense.

Just a card doesn't hurt, surely. I chose a neutral one with an impressionist painting of a violinist.

Lunchtime, doubly so.

Hopefully I'll catch the repeat on Dave. Oh.

Yes, the Engels one looks good. I might book that.

actually predicted a future technology with astonishing accuracy. He didn't even consider himself a Sci-Fi writer.

You know he was the original Apple evangelist too, I presume.

It's just he's quite a big feature of the books.

I liked some of DA's clever stuff, mind.

DA's idea of an everyman - i.e. a ****er but occasionally bearable

there just *is* no other way to do it.

These things want proper management and administration.
