performance from the Arsenal. I wouldn't blame Arsene for the Flamini substitution, since at 0-1 down at home, to that particular team, it was clear we were out of the tie already. so saving Coquelin for a much more important game at OT on Sunday, made perfect sense. I doubt the "naive" moments in our display came as a surprise to people who've been watching the team for years.

Sadly I take no solace from such things.

We were playing a simply much better team and they fully deserved their win.

I thought we huffed and puffed a bit, created very few real clear cut chances, 2 perhaps – Chamberlain and Giroud. Other incidents weren’t chances.

Had we ended 0-0 and had a reasonable chance in the second leg then I would say it was well done but not having held out for 60-70 minutes.

Not sure Coquelin was rested for Sunday but sounds as logical an explanation as any.

is it ?
The bloke would barely get on the bench at West Brom, so god knows why we're rewarding players of that ilk with contracts.

We're supposed to be one of the top ten set ups in Europe.

I could just about understand it if he was a former club legend, imparting a treasure trove of experience towards the next generation..

Aren't we supposed to plan a bit bigger than this, these days ?

agreement that the card-waving steroid c**ts deserved their win and I do hope we rest some players for the return leg, because either way we'll probably get badly hammered there (Barcelona won't rest anyone, they want to beat everyone 8-0 and they also have a spectacularly quick "recovery procedure" should any of their midgets pick up a knock or injury).

Milan.I do agree that we should have got new blood in, in place of the ageing and mostly injured trio of Arteta-Flamini-Rosicky, but being a bit of a romantic, I also admire the loyalty AW showed (if it was, indeed, that and not parsimony) in giving them another season after they all (particularly Arteta and Rosicky when available) served the club admirably. Although, of course, this could well cost us the title, which really is NAIVE.

Or tiring perhaps given his long recent absence.

A small something inside dies all the same when you see Wenger release a player so obviously limited as Mathieu Flamini from the bench into a game of this magnitude, a game that at that point was not completely lost.

particular case, against that team, one would have to be absurdly optimistic to think we had much of a chance of progressing to the next round, even if we had somehow managed to salvage a draw last night. AW will soon "captain Ahab" himself chasing that mirage, the CL.

Simply because it is better than getting an abject c**ting. Better to have fought and lost than never to have fought at all. No-one wants to lose 9-0.
