Though I have to say, the new Top Gear looks like it's going to be even more of a c**t fest than the last lot.

Probably a name for gays back in the olden times.

One of Yeats' long poems of the Celtic Twilight was called 'The Wanderings of Oisin'.

Odd choice, I thought

There has been a marked resurgence in what I would call ‘real’ Irish names, some of which are borderline unpronounceable never mind spelling them.

Mind you I was on the touchline at a game last Saturday (12-2 and 16-2 since you ask) and the opposition manager was urging ‘Brooklyn’ to put a bit more effort in.

:hehe:

Well, I actually said "After the guy that plays the eunuch in Game of Thrones?".

Strange choice indeed

But calling somebody a lazy Irish c**t is not racist in any way.

Not even a yellow back then.

My point is "you lazy Irish c**t".

Rude, abusive, possibly accurate. In a HR world no doubt gross misconduct.

Racist? No.

The Equality Act 2010 makes it unlawful to discriminate against employees, job seekers and trainees because of race - this includes the different elements of colour, nationality, and ethnic or national origin.

Europe out! Or in!

Him not getting a job because he is Irish perhaps but to simply append his nationality to a sentence, no matter how rude, is not racist.

I certainly would not take it in any such way were a chap to call me such.

generalisation. I would point out that 90% of the UK infrastructure was ''Paddy'' built, especially the railroads and canals.

Sometimes I miss the old days. Usually when the opposition have much better players than we do.

Adding the word "Irish" - identifying him by his nationality - has made it racial discrimination. Interchange the work "Irish" for "black" - according to the Equality Act - and you get the idea.
