View Full Version : Walcott has become rather mercurial the past month or two, it's so weird because before then he was

playing well and starting to look really deadly in front of goal.

What the hell is going on with him?

He had the dreaded cruciate ligament tear and was out for a long long time. He was eased back in very slowly and appeared to have recovered well. But I wonder if that has had a mental impact or maybe he has lost half a yard of pace, as pace is what his game is all about.

He always seems motivated when he is interviewed, so that doesn't appear to be the problem. It's not as if he wants to go elsewhere.

Could it be something wrong in his personal life? Makes me wonder.

It's a bit of a mystery. I hope whatever it is can be sorted for his sake and the club's.

If only Brendan was still at Liverpool :-(

I find it utterly mystifying that he's still seemingly omnipresent. I thought once he retired, and was fully coloured in, he would gracefully disappear bowing out to spend more time with his family and his money pool, ala scrooge mcduck.

Nope, still here, still influencing morons to try and emulate his beige stylings, still struggling to sound like a human being with testicles.

You are a worldly wise chap, you do not need me to tell you that everything he has done in the past decade has been done to further the brand, all meticulously planned by the massive PR machine behind them.

Loan deals in two of the most fashion forward cities in the world at a time when his Mrs is pushing her fashion career. Allegedly financed by the brand to keep him in the public eye.

BBC look at me documentaries pretending to be about things other than looking at him, private jets around the world to play 7 football matches in 7 days on different continents etc.

And then I read the other day that one of the biggest fashion brands in the world has appointed their 17 year old kid as their main photographer for their next campaign. A relatively unqualified and unexperienced photographer despite the world being full of brilliant professional photographers.

Oh and this is the same chap who nearly became a professional footballer for us.

The new brand.

he has his moments. He scores some very good goals but misses chances good strikers would score for fun. His all round game is still no better than it was 6 or 7 years ago.

The fact that he sounds motivated in interviews is totally irrelevant. The pitch is the only place where talking counts.

Wins him some kudos.

Beckham probably thinks Morrissey is the same bloke from the TV sitcom with Martin Clunes.

Seriously though, the same people who knock Joey Barton for quoting Nietzsche are the same people that insist Sir Beckety Becks Beckham OBEMBECBE is a smart cookie because he's prepared to whore himself out to anyone with a bige enough chequebook.

Or to put it another way, my education allows me to show off. But unless it also enables me to pay for my children's education, it is useless. Mean, selfish, egotistical.

And, of course, win more trophies and caps and play for better clubs with better players and so on.

And, I do think this is fundamentally the crucial thing, the man has not one shred of dignity. I'm not sure whether it's because he doesnt have a soul, or whether the idea of dignity is too complex a concept for him, but for all these reasons he's the man he is today, and Barton is playing for Burnleh.

Perhaps you need to explain what you mean by "dignity". I'm sure it's not a thing I've ever given much thought to. One is either dignified or one is not, imo. The redgunamos are, for all the good it does.

And wisdom is what decent wives were invented for.

See, the most important thing a man must learn is, it's not all about him.

It's a million leagues above bland wisdom, in fact. It's lifetimes of experience, whereas "wisdom" suggests mere learning.

They've done so all my life. That's their role, their duty to me and their job, as it is for me and my sons. There's no need to remember anything.

At this late stage, I do not need to reflect, to do so would be a waste of time. And, as we know, time is luck, a most precious commodity.
