View Full Version : Wouldn't be surprised if we win tonight. Here's what I recall from past games v the steroid Catalans

1999 CL group stages
Barcelona 1 Arsenal 1 - Arsenal outplay Barcelona for large parts of the game, Grimandi sent off in 81st minute.
Arsenal 2 Barcelona 4 - played at Wembley (eurgh), Arsenal miss a boatload of chances, while Barcelona hit them with fast-paced counterattacking football. At 0-0 Cocu DIVES in Arsenal penalty area, getting a decisive penalty for the Catalan side.. ****ers!

2006 CL Final Barcelona 2 Arsenal 1
Arsenal completely blitz Barcelona in opening 15 mins with one-touch brilliance, hitting the post and missing other chances. Jens lehmann gets sent off in 18th min, but 10-man Arsenal outplay Barcelona and 20 mins from time, with the Gunners leading 1-0, Henry has a chance to finish the game off in a one-on-one with the keeper, but misses. Enter the excellent Larsson and two assists later Barcelona win 2-1.
2010 knock out stages

Arsenal 2 Barcelona 2
Barcelona annihilate Arsenal in the first 45 mins with an awesome display, the home side barely get a touch and Almunia makes about 20 incredible saves, but of course lets in an absolutely idiotic goal in the 2nd half for 0-2. Theo Walcott comes on for last 20 mins and destroys the Catalans with speed-of-sound pace, as Arsenal stage an unlikely comeback and the game ends 2-2. (an overwhelming majority of AWIMB experts at the time, expressed opinions that Ibrahimovic wasn't good enough for Arsenal and they wouldn't like to see him here).

Barcelona 4 Arsenal 1
Arsenal, ravaged by injuries, send a weakened team to the Nou Camp and get hammered. Messi gets all 4 goals for the home side.
2011 knock out stages

Arsenal 2 Barcelona 1
Arsenal become the ONLY side to beat Barcelona in the entire CL campaign that season. They do so after falling 0-1 behind in a fantastic spectacle of a match. Jack Wilshere is unanimously declared Man of the Match by all, except little spiteful midget Xavi, who cannot even bring himself to congratulate Arsenal, saying in true Mourinho style that “Barca were the better team”. Uh, yeah….

Barcelona 3 Arsenal 1
An idiotic Cesc fabregas back-heel IN FRONT OF HIS OWN PENALTY AREA gives Barca a 1-0 lead at the end of first half. Second half Arsenal equalize, but the ref is quick to send off van persie in one of the most amazing red-card decisions ever seen. Idiots who say this (some of our own on AWIMB also, in their disgusting Barca love-in) had no bearing on the result have no clue, because in the short time after the Arsenal goal and the sending off, the dynamics of the game changed instantly and one could tell the visitors growing in confidence, while the home side looked edgy. With 10 men, against that catalan side, it was obviously game over.
