"I grew up with English football, I supported Swansea, and then switched to Arsenal, but I fell out of love with them when they got interesting. I think I preferred them dogged, resolute and the butt of jokes, rather than the flash, saucy, continental side they became. When I was growing up football existed in the festering end of Britain's social spectrum, so it's unbelievable how it's changed."

Amy Lawrence, that he only really got into football after moving to Italy and only had a passing interest until that point.

Which would explain why he clearly knows nothing about it.

I once lost my driver in Cambodia and eventually found him alseep under a coconut tree. If the lazy f**ker had had a sombrero I could have at least taken a photograph of him.

In the end I simply had him soundly thrashed.

It's architecture for people who think good architecture's about looking fancy.

If I went to Mexico and found people working hard, not taking bribes or not cutting each others' heads off over the drug trade, I would be most disappointed.

Didn't he also soil his boots with the tour de france ?

I mean, consider my recent visits to Rwanda, Cambodia and Vietnam :-(

Never been the same since it went to commercial telly, though. It really needs David Vine's strangulated tones as some neckless Finn suffers a rectal prolapse trying to lift a goods train.

means that while everyone has at least a passing interest in it, not everyone must have a wild obsession with it.

The game's the thing, not the team. As Shakespeare might've said.
