(eg: previews of matches from weeks ago) and their are usually zero comments on their articles. The Graun might not be making any money either but at least people read it. Even/Especially the people who disagree with it, it seems.

The death of print is all a bit sad, really. Sometimes the internet sucks. And if that means less real news too than this is a Bad Thing.

There are not enough consumers of the good stuff to make it commercially viable in the form of a printed newspaper, but there's enough to make it worth the while of (typically independent) news providers who are not (entirely) commercially motivated.
