Obviously I'll be ranking higher than anybody else in Rome but if anybody could supply some restaurant info or some hidden tourist gems that would be great.

Not that bothered about the art and the history *******s though, I think I might just find an Irish bar and watch Sky Sports.

it's really easy to eat badly... If I were you I'd take advice from the concierge at your hotel about the best local places.

The art and the history is all around you, man. Just walk, and look, and wonder.

Top tip: there is a glove shop at the bottom of the Spanish Steps, behind the Trevi Fountain, which is the only place in the world Mrs Charlie will buy her gloves. So it must be toppermost.

Sadly, it is at the Stadio Olympico - I think you would like the Stadio Flaminio where Italy normally play

Obviously it is past its best and has a habit of lunging at you two-footedly

If the last time I was there is any gauge. Actually the hotel is obscenely good, that's Mrs Jorge's spciality.

Should I pick some gloves up for the Mrs?

I was just remembering wandering into a real local neighbourhood restaurant one evening which had the appearance of a pie and mash shop, all tiled and clinical, served rough red wine at 5 euros a bottle and the most amazing food; a vitello tonato that will live with me forever, and a duck ragu that was life-altering... but now I think that was probably in Verona :-(

I **** you not :-|

Whereabouts is your hotel?

It's central, we have a suite with a terrace, it's a little boutique place.

I've been a couple of times before, once just passing through to Florence and the other time staying with mates out of the centre.

Harry's glove stall down Bermondsey Market of a Sat'day?

If there isn't an official 'concierge', you need to charm the receptionist. The inside scoop is all in these matters.

his one rotten tooth, filthy flat-cap and a pitiful grasp of english, will be able to charm a sophisticated roman girl?

The sight of a five pound note will be enough to have a nice Roman girls sinking to her knees and scrabbling at your flies, for with such riches she will be able to feed herself, her feckless husband, and their 11 children for a week.

And I have yet to go native, retaining my endearing cheeky cockernee geezah persona with consumate aplomb.

I'm essentially Danny Dyer with table manners

You'll miss the mass in whatever the f**k the square is called so your best bet is taxi straight to the hotel and then your nearest pub until closing.

Glad to help.
