I mean if someone flies 20,000 miles to watch their favourite team, possibly committing the sin of taking a picture of him-her-xe.self in the stadium, but generally wants his team to win - but takes the place of someone local who goes along to the game to spit bile and venom at his "beloved" team - which one is the "supporter" *

The best form of protest is not to buy said ticket, and not to buy it and then walk out before getting your money's worth.

“We’ll pick the best 23 for Italy so we could conceivably pick a faster pack,” Jones said. “We’re going to make some changes. We’ll pick a side more specifically for Italy and it will revolve around a number of positions. Our selection policy is to pick the best 23 and what I think is the best 23 to play Italy could be considerably different from the best 23 that played against Scotland.”

Jones described Robshaw’s performance as “tidy. It was good, he’ll only get better”. But the head coach was pointedly rich in his praise for Haskell. “We don’t have a Test seven at the moment. Haskell did a super job at the weekend. He made 22 tackles. If McCaw makes 22 tackles, everyone raves about him. There is an obsession with turnovers here.

“We’re not obsessed with turn-overs. We’re obsessed with having a good defence, which we did against Scotland. We didn’t allow them to cross the line. And he was a genuine driving force as part of that defence. There is a rumour going round that James Haskell has got bad hands. That’s not true. He’s got terrible hands. But he used his hands really well. He was dynamite in defence.

Thus the essence of the protest would be lost.

The best bit about last week’s demonstration at Anfield was them leaving at 2-0 to get home and find out they f**ked it up.

As the tourist will probably spend money in the shop, they are likely to be the preferred customer for the club. As the angry local is likelly to generate some sort of noise, he will be the preferred customer for the TV company.

Although contrary to the prevailing view on AWIMB, not all non-tourist customers spit bile and venom.

so they cancelled it and watch the games they want in the pub instead

I'm sure US sports are as expensive to watch in person as football matches are now in the PL. Do they also bitch and moan about it?

The fact is that football used to be a sport which only the working class would attend. Over the decades it removed a lot of violence and other bad behaviour, sexism, homophobia etc, clubs have invested in modern stadia to attract corporate visitors, European flights have become cheaper than taking a 25 min train journey, games on TV are incredibly high quality etc etc. The two eras are like chalk and cheese so it's pointless moaning that the "real" fans are being priced out of the game, because thos people are no more "real" by virtue of the fact that their father used to attend games, than Johnny Foreigner is

that football, and specifically for these supporters, going to every one of your team's home games, is *different*.

the Football "Supporters" Federation would deem the latter worthy of their consideration but not the former. Rather reminds me of how that utter c**t Gordon Taylor of the Professional Footballer's Association would defend certain players (i.e. British) even if they had committed rape/murder yet would happily throw others i.e. Patrick Vieira under the bus at the first opportunity

attending each home game though, which means you're essentially wasting your breath with us.

You're in a completely different space, economically, socially, emotionally. And, as Kevin Keegan(?) said, for London trendies, going to the football is the same as going to the cinema, or the theatre. Or deciding whether to shop at Waitrose or the local market.

I've had a decent life and my legacy shall be my sons having a one hundred times better one. Which, quite frankly, involves spending as little time as possible in hellholes such as Zambia.

The top picture is clearly the club's target demographic, but then like the wicked marketing type you are you've gone and rigged the poll by making one option unpalatable.

As Arsene nose, sometimes one has the money but does not find value in the market.

As ever, there's more to this than meets the eye.

I went to some length yesterday to explain how considering football as exactly the same as any other market commodity was a flawed.

The essence of my argument is that treating football as exactly the same as any other business, and particularly treating supporters as customers, is flawed. Both the post that pointed to the two key market distortions in the game, and the OP that said how customers are entitled to moan are a part of that argument. IMO.
