They interviewed his wife and daughter on the telly. She looked like a nice girl.

I think it's far more likely he's a brilliant coach who teaches excellent thought and technique, manages clubs who already have the ear of the ref and pushes sports science to its absolute limits.

I guess we'll find out when he moves to man ci....oh

This is where blood doping comes in. You should have been there that night when Nandrolona came to town. Their relentless swarming over the pitch defied biology.

Hopefully Dr Neg will be along soon to furnish you with the details.

I was at both and not really sure how they defied biology

The thing is, whatever Pep does or doesnt do it's not all just down to doping. I mean, there are no drugs you can take that could make you pass like Xavi, dribble like Messi or intercept a ball like Mascherano.

The stronger you are, the better balanced and controlled you will be, and the more skillfull you will be.

funnily enough I think more people have come round to the idea that Diego was the better player of that pair. Still don't think either of the current due are in that league. Imagine Maradona not being hacked to **** every 20 secs - in some respects I think he might get quite bored

Classic Jorge

Diego, being as he was complex, interesting, flawed, this marvellous barrell of gunpowder you couldnt get near, let alone disposess. Always battling for the underdog, dragging a team of good but not great players to the world cup almost singlehandedly, winning Serie A with Napoli.

Diegito

Maradona wouldn't have lasted five minutes under Wenger, for example.

I have alot of respect for people who have that single-mindedness and dedication and those hardworking principles and an almost monastic, religious adherence to the pursuit of excellence in whatever their chosen field is. And from such an early age!

Good breeding, see.

Though I'd say he's roughly as flawed compared to maradona as he is a great, great player compared to maradona.

Yes, I get the whole monastic, single minded thing. It's very admirable but it makes for a poor hero.

Would Mohammed Ali have been Ali without the mouth he had? I doubt it.

He was a serious professional. Ronaldo too, switched on to his responsibilities very quickly. And remains switched on to them, so far as we can judge.

People don't like this because most are told it's *cool* to piss, puff and snort your teens away. When they finally come round and realise the truth, that they've been bantered off with the ultimate ****housery, it's too late.

Then sour grapes sets in. Never wanted a future all along, they'll say. Anyone with money and success is boring, thick, corrupt, whatever.

Fooling nobody though.

Otherwise, as you say, he was *merely* a great fighter.

His prowess in the boxing arena gave him the single-mindedness and strength to resist and succeed in larger battles.
