Bold, ugly from a distance, but clad in brick, which is nice, and the lofty butresses look good from underneath. They remind me a little bit of Lords.

So entirely appropriate then.

That, on the other hand, looks like an overgrown regional arts centre.

Also Milan station frontage and concourse is French in style, surely.

Magnificent arches and roof over the platforms.

The concourse didn't feel French. It felt... brutal. And fascist. Which was clearly the effect they were aiming for. That's what architecture is, really, isn't it? It's not to do with whether the thing is made of brick or marble, or whether it's square or curved, it's about how the architect manipulates your emotions.

But yes, were it rendered in concrete I can see why the stadium might be descibed as Brutalist.

(Etymology of Brutalism refers to concrete rather than brutality.)

I'm betting it's from their favourite salute rather than the owner's name.

Seriously, I am intrigued by this building you mention. I presume it is on the Harringay or Hackney sides of FP not the Islington side, or I would know it?

There's a multilevel platfrom entrance bit up the side of the old station leading to a world of RENFE based delights.

I'm not saying they are incredibly alike or anything. Just brick. and archey.

Small town doesn't need such a massive station.

I saw communist loosely. But that' was my wife's opinion.

And she loves Marx.

of being beneath a railway viaduct - only the denizens are even more pissed.

And it's 'Mound' Stand, of course. But I'm sure you knew that and it was just a typo.

Not saying she's old, of course.

I grew up with that place at the bottom of my road. I wouldnt say it was communist but it was certainly brutally clacisist, all grey stone and high windows.
