View Full Version : How do you convince an elderly grandparent living on his own that it would be a good idea

that family move in and look after him.

Without looking like you are trying to nick his house?

It's not me by the way.

Ground glass in his tea might show up at the post mortem.

What if I spook him out a bit instead. Funny phone calls knocking on his door and running away. Turn his doormat sideways.

As I am moving on with my life I am trying to make the most of all the rest of my family by sticking them all in one place and then they can stop moaning.

Would solve many problems. Not trying to fix their life but sometimes there is such an easy solution that nobody wants to get on with.

recognise the people in them.

My other half’s grandparents are in a f**king ridiculous situation.

Her: 92, barely able to walk and has early-on-set dementia
Him: 82 with increasingly serious prostate and bladder issues meaning regular emergency hospital visits.

They live in a rickety old farm house in Kenley, miles from anywhere, with the closest family member (my pregnant missus) a 2 hour drive away.

They stayed overnight on Christmas day and we had to drive the old fella to A&E at 4 in the morning because he refused to wear his catheter and he couldn’t take a piss despite his bladder being full to bursting point.

I was left at home to deal with the old dear desperately worried and confused and my 21 month old son.

Fun night :-|

I'm kind-of hoping that the history of drink and drugs will kill me off before 70.

I tell you what Clive, if we don’t see at least half of that 800k when they croak, I’ll go f**king mental

sitting in a cosy armchair with a succession of good books, stopping occasionally to have someone change your colostomy bag and feed you some liquidised gammon through a straw, no?

Once the Revenue and the lawyers have romped through his 800k, he'll be lucky to get a decent holiday out of it :-(

Ok, maybe 400k is optimistic, but I'd like to think we are in line for a nice pay day at some point soon...err I mean in the long and distant future :hide:

Sounds hugely perverted saying such a thing on the 20th of the month mind you.

I’ve been busy, doing ****, living la vida loca etc.

A cheeky week in February is all we'll manage, I'm afraid. Thailand, I think.
