View Full Version : I've just spent the morning in Eastbourne.

Or, as I like to call it, 1952.

I saw a cosy-looking fish and chip restaurant on the front with a parking space right outside. Immediate visions of steaming portions of fresh cod and chips sprang to mind; I could almost taste the tang of vinegar. I screeched to a halt, leapt from the vehicle and hurried to the door. The sight of what lay within had me staggering back and then running with all speed for the sanctuary of the car and the escape of the A27.

Yes. The inhabitants of Eastbourne are less 'old', than technically 'dead'. :-(

I seem to remember that Eastbourne has a rather lovely front.

The locals just all appear to smell of stale piss.

in keeping with God's instruction to only eat swimmy things on a Friday. Get it right and a nice fish dinner can be head in peace. Time in wrong and :yikes: battalions of 70 and 80 something descend on the place, no seat is safe and you really do get very dirty looks if you converse in English.

The Royal Bath used to be one of the most elegant hotels on the south coast. Its gourmet weekends were legendary. I once spent a christmas there, for God's sake. It was like The Savoy by the sea.

Why must everything be ruined

It is suspiciously cheap. Do the doormen wear top hats?

No top hatted doormen, no Sir Charlie. Them's the rules.

that you will not be disappointed. The food is sublime - opt for the pig's head.

Salt & vinegar, of course. Probably the perfect partner to a good pint, imo.

Even your undoubted charms would struggle to overcome beer, salt and vinegar crisp and pickled egg breath, I'd have thought?
