somewhat avuncular demeanour with him but we all knew you were looking to split his ring.

I expect you just dumped him once you got bored hmm?

The love between an older man and a younger boy, I mean man, can be a beautiful thing, if sufficient lubrication is applied.

I was watching the rest of the TV series not that long back - had only seen the pilot before. It was OK but lacked a certain - well Dirk Gently-ness tbh

Shot in Bristol or some such provincial backwater, I gather.

Worth watching though.

Have you ever noticed how sort of square-jawed, open and honest-looking so many of them are?

I remember being out to dinner with a Dutch couple when we heard someone at the next table say something vaguely racist.

They turned to each other in shock, and the interesting thing was that what they were experiencing wasn't outrage or anger, it was disbelief and confusion. It just didn't compute that someone could possibly say such a thing.

Mind you, that's a few years ago. I think they all hate foreigners now.

I once had a talking book on tape of the first one read by the man himself. Wouldn't mind getting hold of that version again.

up the potential to offend by refusing - as well as, of course, working out if going would cost them money.

The two greatest fears of the Dutch people, b. Giving offence and spending money.
