View Full Version : You can't blame John Peel for some people not liking MOR. (as was suggested below)

I never let Peel tell me what to like, as much of the stuff he played was pretty poor, even to my ears as a child of the punk / post punk / indie / alt generation. Undertones were good, but not near the best of that genre and The Fall were massively over-rated.

Nope, I didn't like MOR because to my tastes it was slow, boring and conservative, which is fine if that's your bag and you like music you could wave your lighter in the air to, but not for me, Clive.

Right on, dude. Now you should hurry along to double maths

I dont think you can blame John Peel for the UK liking more interesting, challenging music. It's just that it's better than your usual common-or-garden stadium rock ****e and we're better than everyone else. Natural really.

Although the glw did show me an App that works like a Zippo for that purpose. You can even do the flicking it open and closed thing. It's quite cool.

Nobody can really sit down and listen to a Fall album and enjoy it.

'to others' taste'.

Why must these others have their taste sneered at?

Ashberto

that this was only my opinion by the insertion of three subjective clauses into a single sentance.

If we can't enjoy a good-natured little rib at lighters-in-the-air we might as well be in North Korea, no? I hear that The Eagles are very popular* with the beloved leader.

*This might not be true.

Because I don't spend my evenings down the Union Chapel watching Circle Of Sick, I'm a Nazi. That's what you're saying, right?

Ashberto

Sadly my days of sniffing out the best new beat combos in the coolest hip-cat locations years before their appearance in the hit-parade are long gone. I'm more likely to spend my evenings watching The Avengers and falling asleep to the second half of Swansea v Watford. :-|

Are you watching Endeavour btw?

Ashberto

Or is it just for audience participation at REO Speedwagon and Voyager concerts?

Sir Charlie of Nicholas

light the wood burner, and settle to two hours of Endeavour :cloud9:

What happened? :-(

The character is getting a bit more Morse-like. More aloof. More tetchy. In a few years it'll be the 70's and he'll bump into Jack Regan :yikes:

I don't do afters and have never had Angel Delight. It was Instant Whip round our house back when I were a nipper though.

Talking of ham, I made pea and ham soup with marrowfat peas the other day. It was awfully good. I was surprised.

Sir Charlie of Nicholas
01-19-2016, 03:53 PM
Marrowfat peas? I don't really know what they are. Do they come from a can?

Berni
01-19-2016, 03:56 PM
and lift it out and hand-blend everything to smoothness. You then tear up the ham bits and pop them back in.

They actually have more of a flavour than split green peas imo. Although they don't break down in the same way.

We never had either. :-( My parents' social pretensions mean we missed out on all the best processed foods.

The thing I've never understood with peas is when people put mint in with them. What the f**k is that about. It's rank.

Or was it crab and melon soup? Can you get melon soup?

Berni
01-19-2016, 04:06 PM
I have heard of melon soup. I can't imagine it's worth the bother.
