Not good enough to hold down a regular place ending in an undignified sell on after eighteen months or so.
If they offered forty million for Ramsey, I'd bite their arm off. He's a very decent player but not quite world class.
There's an abundance of midfield talent out there that could fill his place.

I mean, if there's plenty out there available who could take his place who would cost less than 40 million, you'd think they'd buy one of them instead.

That's why they shop at John Lewis and Waitrose, that and of course not having to rub shoulders alongside the proles in the bread isle.. :-D

their sweet spot at certain clubs in certain set-ups and are never quite as good outside them.

Then, of course, there are those who go from team to team being as good in one as the other. Those are the really 'top, top' players.

small fish in a big pond at Barca and inevitably ends up missing the feeling of being the main man?

I didn’t think Barca got rid, so much as that they were leeettle bit not that arsed about him wanting to leave in pursuit of regular starts...?

Being at a (relatively) smaller big club like us means that a player like Cesc can have the kind of profile he'd never have had at Barca. Same went for Tel, Dennis, Viera, etc.

that they'll add strength to their squad without being targeted for a regular place.
Chelsea on the other hand have reached the point of absurdity by continuing to acquire and loan out players who then very rarely get a recall.

Just look at this lot.

Lukaku is surely their biggest embarrassment in the current situation.

and they are typically not defenders. Would be interested to know the most they’ve ever spent on a defender or defensive midfielder.

They signed Mattieu and Jordi Alba for around 15m a piece too, if that helps.

That's also what they paid for Song, more or less.
