I was thinking about it on my lunchtime walk. It feels like we're being prick-teased. All we want is to actually either be able to believe were really making a run at this f**king title or to be able to give up all hope. This no-man's-land is infuriating.

I was happy with the whole "happy with a point thing" but now I'm cross. Can you please not watch on Sunday?

Even more annoying, I can sense this last-minute call-up keeper with a Test average of under 9 is going to be a real pain in the are here, isn't he?

Not only would it be a victory for romanticism and fine ideals but we'd als get to shove it right up your *******s, which would be great.

winning if we simply acquire more points than our opponents, can it?

Thus far, our opponents are no more ruthless than us, which means that we are eminently capable of winning it. All this talk of romanticism is nonsense. It's about whether our players are good enough mentally and physically to acquire enough points. AW's supposed 'romanticism' is neither here nor there.

would be for finishing second or third this season.

Our bottom line target this season is still top four and we're looking good for it already. Stress? What stress?

hardly the end of the world. By contrast, to go close to a first title in 12 years and fail would feel much, much worse.

You're confusing the club's priorities with a fan's priorities.

I am a “fan” and so is Hendon Gooner. Do you think we share a perspective? :hehe:

It would have felt worse to me miss out on the top 4, precisely because I knew the damage it would have caused to our chances of being able to challenge for the title in subsequent years. That's because I'm not a cretin

Emotionally, however, it wouldn't have felt that bad at all.

Emotionally, missing out on a title that's there for the winning would be worse because winning titles is what gives us our jollies as football supporters. Maintaining a strong position for future growth is not.

You surely don't divorce being a fan and emotion?

Tottenham have a replay to play and play Palace.

I am ruling Leicester out of things. But they will play their part taking points from the other teams.

at winning it then failing, that will feel worse than being 5th in seasons gone by...... 2nd or 3rd means bugger all, fans like titles and this is our best chance for a number of yrs as instead of having 2-3 very strong teams up with us, we have City... Leicester and Spurs are not teams to be frightened of

as even though our results have been good.

The actual football hasn't been good. And that's what everyone says wins championships. We might start playing good too.

Sure we have the occasional slip ups. But this season everyone is. Plus we didn't lose yesterday. :-)

Spurs, would have been an emotional wrench and when added to the more practical implications I would say as deeply felt as missing out on the title.

There’s also the fact that we have no right to win the title having been so comprehensively outspent by billionaire-backed clubs for years and it’s only by virtue of the fact we have one of the greatest ever managers of all time that we even contemplating the possibility. So no, I wouldn’t be devastated about us missing out on the title, short of it being by virtue of a last minute own goal or something equally cruel.

and then either losing best players or not being able to sign the best. One look at United and Liverpool shows the results of that

I also would be gutted if we go to last few games only to blow it BUT I would be able to console myself with the fact that we could still bring in top drawer players by being in CL

How is it possible for Leicester to have got to this point? How is it possible for Man Utd to have spent *so much* money in the last three years but been so average? Because spending money doesn't guarantee success, even if it makes it a lot easier.

Wenger has been worth hundreds of millions of pounds to the club over the years because his ability to create star players, rather than just buy them, is surely unsurpassed, and when he does buy Very Big Tent players (Ozil, Alexis, Cheque) they have all been excellent.
