Shame about the gay last verse going on about God and stuff, but up to then it's ace.

Have you ever read Leslie Thomas' 'The Dearest And The Best'? There's a bit in there featuring 'IVTTMC' which can cause me to dehydrate through the eyeballs.

The one with the 'Still, small voice of calm', 'To be a pilgrim', the one with the line 'Pavilioned in splendour and girded with praise', 'Now thank we all our god' - some great tunes.

Catholic hymns, in contrast, are a big pile of ****.

I last went to a C of E service about five years ago to please my brother-in-law. I still knew all the songs and everyone was white.

Let's just say that wasn't my experience last time I attended mass.

I think I've only attended one CofE service since leaving school.

It was... cold.

Our music master would raise the flaps of his billowing gown, gently lower himself onto our mighty organ and we'd all make a joyous noise.

Absolutely no requirement for singing, at all, at my council estate comprehensive.

to get terribly carried away with the whole thing, throwing himself about and sweating profusely from his bald pate. And God help the poor pupil who was deputed to turn the pages if his attention wandered and he missed his cue. He could be quite fierce for a music teacher.

He never made us pump his organ, though.

He was most notable for a) always wearing sandals. With socks, and b) habitually casually spitting onto the floor, whether he was indoors or out. I believe this was a matter of absent-mindedness; he certainly wasn't Chinese.

(do they still make blotting paper?), chewing them up for a while and then leaving them in a line on his desk. Quite disgusting.
