moon-faced Brummie c**t Adrian Chiles examining his spirituality and attitudes to religion.

It was honest, thought-provoking and really quite moving.

I can't help but feel that fitting W&P into six episodes may involve a certain amount of skimming. :-(

not sure I actually learned anything.

The two mental flag-weaving Allan-hating British women at the Christian concert in Tel Aviv were funny...

That'll be a bunch of laughs, won't it?

Imagine that! Who knew there were jews in Rome? They were like Italians, but not catholic. Amazing stuff, really.

Have you been watching Deutschland '83?

Berni

about Napoleon and God and ****, but it's all feeling a bit rushed. War & Peace should be immersive, whereas this feels like a bit of an ankle-deep paddle.

It's interesting for me to watch since '83 was exactly the time I was travelling there and thereabouts. V suggested, quite rightly, that t5here will soon be relatively few people left who saw those days, and that I should write my experiences down.

I am living, walking history, mate.

various exhibitions/museums about the cold war and the divide then walking through the city, it was generally hard to get my head around that had been there before. No wonder East Germans are so f**king miserable

Talking about being a jew, talking about being an Allan. Funnily enough, whilst his conclusion was the inevitable rather limp 'we're all the same really, we're all worshipping the same God', it was clear that the part that worried him was the attitude of the Allans he encountered in Marseille...

should be mad for and yet the idea just doesn't grab me for some reason.

Did you watch that Simon Geebag Montefiore thing about Spain on BBC4, btw? Pretty good - although it did rather skip from the death of Philip II to the Spanish Civil War in about half an hour, which was a bit hurried. Still, Spain has been a bit irrelevant for the last four hundred years, so it's understandable.

Beware though, it's not easy to eat well in Rome. Of all the great European cities, Rome has the greatest prevalence of tourist ****.

Greene for me.

Still, it's good to know he hates Allans
