My elder sisters and I religiously watched TOTP but even I cannot now separate actually watching it and the hundreds of times I have seen it replayed. I was probably lying on the floor about 4 foot from the screen. May have still been in Black and White too. Cannot remember when we got our first Colour TV. Radio Rentals sometime in the early 70s

These young 'uns today have no idea just how bizarre it was, to see a man blurring the boundaries of gender and sexuality.

Actually, come to think of it, a bloke walking out on stage today dressed up as Ziggy would still look a bit strange, wouldn't he? :hehe:

We now have beards everywhere. I know I am becoming a grumpy old git but watching MTV and liked depresses me how bland mainstream music is.

Lovely ball to Bellerin for the third. Campbell is indeed impressive, his ball to Bellerin wasn't half bad either. How many Bellerins did we have playing?

Bowie's passing feels like one of the big ones - like when Elvis died, or Lennon. Soon all the great rock n roll monsters will be gone, and there's no one to replace them :-(

Might not be so keen to bring players "home" after that last one :-)

McCartney and Jagger, on the other hand, strike me as the sort who'll live an embarrassingly long time.

Sir Charlie of Nicholas

McCartney and Jagger are too calculating to actually die. They'll go on forever.

Elton could be in the frame, you know. He's got to be knocking on.

music industry these days to allow the amounts of time and money spent on letting bands or artists exercise creativity in the way they used to. Record companies need quick wins - sure things they know will appeal to a broad demographic. They can't afford slow-burners, difficult artists, difficult second albums or any of that stuff.

I wouldn't really count Ron as one of the giants. He's no Mick Taylor.

I have to assume that, to have a beard, he has to still have the lads intact. But they're always really cagey about that sort of thing, yer transes. They'll bang on for days about how they're a different gender, but ask them what they've got in their under crackers and they clam right up.

The kids of today have a much better life than in the 60s and 70s. Even the 80s. They have nothing much to rebel about and a future to have. They have no time to go to art school, do sod all for 3 years except play music then live in a squat.

Leaving Uni, taking a gap year then having a comfortable life with running water and 2 foreign holidays a year does not inspire a Never Mind The *******s now does it?

The Blitz opened when I was high school and I was 18 when I was made up to the 9s to get into the Camden Palace. That was 81.

That had died by 82 really, just a few strgglers until mid 80s. By then it had becoming Hard-Time Chic and Electro

You can add a few lesser influences as Cricket, TV etc but the first three shaped my life. I do not believe music has that now as the yoof of today have a dozen other things to fill their time. Games, travel, Internet etc etc.

Sub-Culture is dead :-(

What does seem to be different is that there doesn't seem to be the tribal element of identifying with particular musicians or genres that there used to be. They're much more eclectic.

Mine are the same. They both like music. ''Like''. They have no overriding passion for anything, no youth style and anger at much at all.

They are both well meaning, caring and balanced kids. Articulate and with a balanced world view too.

God they can be boring sometimes

Music is now just part of recreation, not central to life and existence as it was when I was a lad. Punks, Mods, Rockers, Teds and kicking the **** out of each other because of some musical cords. Same as football, just not as important to existence as it was 30 years ago
