He would have been 18 in 1943; he may have had some remarkable experiences during the war. He'd remember VE day, the establishment of the welfare state, the coronation of Her Majesty, the Cold War, the rise of the teenager, The Beatles exploding into popular culture, the permissive society, Man walking on the moon, decimalisation, Eric and Ernie, Ronnie and Ronnie, Ronnie and Margaret and the fall of the wall... I wonder if anyone ever stopped for a moment to ask him about his experiences.

Probably not. We don't, do we?

Plus old people are sometimes unapproachable.

things. Perhaps these experiences didn't give him wisdom - but it's nice to imagine that they did.

I was thinking recently that one of my earliest memories is of the disaster at Aberfan, but when I checked the date, I found that it happened when I was 18 months old, so I obviously have no recollection of it at the time; isn't that odd?

But seriously, I think it's quite common to fabricate memories based on stories we were told about stuff that happened when we were very young. I have several such memories.

years after, so I'm probably remembering that.

Also, I have had several previous lives, flashes of which come back to me on occasion.

as opposed to a lingering death with non-interested nurses telling you what to do. Getting hit by a bus going to an Arsenal match is exactly the way to go, my friend.
