View Full Version : Apparently the Labour victory in Oldham is 'even more impressive' because the weather was poor.

Labour voters allegedly are less likely to make the effort to get to a polling station if it is rainy or cold.

Just let that sink in for a moment.

The thing is f**king farcical. You're right, unfortunately, that because it's UKIP making the complaint, it's going to be quietly brushed under the carpet.

the last general elections in this seat and there was lack of clarity as to who their main rivals would be, UKIP started from a low base and their result is quite impressive.

I woudl imagine all voter types are allegedly less likely to make the effort to get to a polling station if it is rainy or cold.

friends up here in the North and those down South

Almost all here seem to think the Syria thing is wrong and Corbyn is a decent Labour leader......

in poor weather than Labour voters. There was a whole thing about it in the lead up to the General Election

A cursory glance at the informationsuperhighway reveals that this theory appears to be acknowledged and founded in fact

working classes (lazy). It's only the Asians (hem, hem) and the Guardian readers they can actually rely on.

Mind you, given that UKIP's vote in this case would have also been mostly white and working class, I suspect they probably suffered more by virtue of the weather than did Labour.

I still feel guilty about that.

it can happen in a marginal but I can't find anywhere what percentage of the vote was likely to be postal. Labour seem to have such a stranglehold on the seat and the guy who won was already recognised as a popular local politician - makes you wonder why they would bother

Berni

The electoral commission's report earlier this year highlighted Oldham as a major risk for Postal vote fraud, so there's every reason to look very carefully at the voting in this by-election.

What's mystifying is that it could be stopped simply by restricting the use of postal votes back to where they were before they were opened up. What has the current government to gain by not reforming the system?

Won't make that mistake again.

Then again my vote is pointless since the Labour c**ts got up to no good with the borders. I'm in a Labour ward :puke:

It might be taken more seriously and not seen as more standard knee-jerk bluster from ukip.

You are right though, the obvious solution is to restrict the use of the postal vote. It isnt actually difficult.

Berni

It's not a purely Labour thing. There have been instances involving all three major parties in England. It's an ethnicity thing, I'm afraid.
