View Full Version : So Corbyn has had to back down and allow a free vote on bombing.

Of course, this was the only sane option available to him three weeks ago and, had he taken it, he could have appeared magnanimous. But rather than choose it then, he thought it would be best to let his party tear itself apart for three weeks in full media glare and for him to preen and posture before ultimately having to back down, leaving himself looking weak and defeated.

What a consummate politician Jez is! :hehe:

If slightly uncertain MPs start to waver back towards a 'no' over the course of the week and the numbers start to look marginal, Dave's got a hell of a decision to make.

I haven't yet seen a decent argument for extending the bombing, to be honest.

genuine and principled opposition.

Over 70% of his party (not the Blairite sub-Tory MPs) oppose Cameron's make-it-up-as-he-goes-along-knee-jerk-haven't-got-a-clue-wha ts-going-on-f**kwittery - and as do some tories as well. If Cameron could convince his own party that mindlessly hurling ordnance at Syria would definitely be a good idea he wouldn't need the connivance of the Blairites.

Look, if you have allies, you act with them or you're no better than an Italian or a Spaniard. Some things just have to be done.

The Dear Leader's charisma is such that even our very own Mr Reasoned Argument is reduced to lashing out with Red Tory jibes in defence of the Great One.

Is it his dress sense?

Are you supporting ISIS this week, or opposing them? It's hard to keep up.

I thought I just deployed a rhetorical flourish.

of daft foreigners. We're supposed to do these things when we have good reason, and then we're supposed to do them more efficiently and effectually than all the other silly buggers.

Wearing out the last remaining flying hours on a few Tornados to try to deliver ordnance to an enemy who may well be hiding within a civilian population seems to me beneath us, as a proud warrior race.

I started watching that thing last night, wossname, Vikings and Saxons and that. Awfully good.

When he can get even you going, we can be sure that he is a dangerous maniac who, given access to our television sets, will have himself voted in as Eternal Imperial Overlord within weeks.

of recognising that both Russia and ISIS are our enemies. By acting in Syria, we can help curtail Putin's actions and degrade ISIS (who he isn't bombing).

The question remains whether we have a reason and, if so, a viable plan to execute.

Is there a debate in Ireland about your sending aid to your allies in this matter, sw?

if you didn't support their particular version of Islam then they would leave for pastures new, wouldn't you?

Failing that, you would think that when many western nations started bombing the city, you would take that as your cue to leave. I am not sure that there are many people there who aren't at least guilty by association.

A fact of the matter is that ISIS members know that they can score points in the PR war by residing with 'civilians' and allowing them to be killed when strikes target them.

I'm not sure that we should sit back and allow our allies to do our dirty work. ISIS are a threat to the UK and we should therefore be doing our fair share of the dirty work - or at least what our infrastructure allows.

I don't think Irish people see this as our war.

The day we do is the day ISIS regret acting the maggot.

That's nice for you. Awfully nice.

Don't worry about it though; we'll get on with spending 3 pc of GDP on the most up to date weaponry to keep your sorry arses safe. You lads have another pint and look at pictures of your Cessna 172

with Russia are doing their best to make it an enemy.

Russia does not want to kill us or enslave us. The Allan Akhbars do. Russia has suffered far from from Johnny Islamist than we have. They should be our allies against him. And we let them do the bombing.

perhaps.

Well then you would think that she will encourage (or at least not discourage) her sons to join ISIS. They hide them etc. My view is that people associated to ISIS are a significant threat as well and therefore need to be dealt with.

It's not so great for everyone else who has to carry your share of the moral and economic burden, of course. I suppose 'f**k em' would be the considered response?

instability and/or Johnny Jihadi running around. Besides, Ivan is generally happy enough overall with Poots, I think. Apart from the gays and the transexuals perhaps, but they'll just have to wait a bit longer.

Expansionist? Not really. The intervention in Ukraine was in response to a provocation - an overthrow of a democratic government, ironically, by US-backed Nazis very hostile to Russian-speakers in Eastern Ukraine. I may have mentioned this.

Nationalist? No more nationalist than any other country that thinks it knows best and acts accordingly.

If we are worried about disturbing global threats, I do think that the USA is far more dangerous than Russia. Seriously. Russia doesn't actually go around smashing the world up unless it is directly threatened. It doesn't help when Russia tells the US its flight plans and then gets shot down by one of the USA's bitches which is blatantly on the side of ISIS.
