View Full Version : I generally think I’m pretty liberal minded about breast feeding, and find it ridiculous that anyone

would object to it being done in public.

Nontheless, I’m not sure how I feel about whether it should be allowed in the House of Commons or any other open workplace. It is an activity which, due to the fact that babies are noisy and do not always feed easily, can be highly disruptive to both the feeder and anyone present.

What say Awimb?

disruption. Certainly in a large chamber such as the House of Commons, the potential for disruption by a noisy breastfeeding baby is significant.

Bear in mind some women breastfeed their babies until they’re toddlers and a prone to causing all sorts of mayhem

it appears you have a fetish for this.

Otherwise you wouldn't care.

Is it too much to ask that people just judge whether it's an appropriate place or time and act accordingly?

I dont think feeding a baby in the chamber would be good for the baby or the mother, but there are plenty of ante-rooms, snugs and assorted corridors all around the place to find a quiet corner and feed the kid there.

I'm not entirely sure we should be wasting valuable parliamentary time discussing such pointless ****e, mind.

Anyway, why the breastfeeding hang up, m?

feed in the chamber itself.

Lots of really, really ridiculous rules, traditions, pomp and ceremony about the place.

We'd be better of reforming the whole thing root and branch, put it somewhere more suitable and try and restore the building whilst building a modern, forward looking democracy.

Much like the Royals, the rituals and pantommime arent really fit for a modern, grown up country.

Remember I've worked in the HoC, albeit briefly, and the place is frankly rather embarrassing in terms of the men walking around in wigs and tights, decked out with all sorts of archaic insignia.

We just need to be, to quote Andy T, "better".

Care to elaborate, just to alleviate the suspicions that some of our more cynical* minds here might be entertaining about the hypothetical time you delivered a pizza there?

stop going on about how wonderful Blighty is (apart from, you know, the immigrants and irish and the dogs, probably) so there is some sort of balance in the world

f**king tedious (I speak from bitter experience). Generally, expats who yearn for the country they left but don't actually want to go back there can f**k off imo.

Haven't seen the welsh one. I think the mother of all parliaments at One Parliament Square is a superb edifice. I thought you liked your OTT neo-gothic.

I do like my neogothic stuff, though I think the HoC is also very Rococo in places, but I dont think the place lends itself to the whole business of democracy very well.

Oppositional chamber, lots of nooks and crannies, the offices are absolute ****e and there is, rather unbelieveably, no bloody wifi for large parts of the building.

It's also absolutely falling to pieces.
