Swedish man killed in Sydney shopping trolley crash

A Swedish man has died and another has been seriously injured in a shopping trolley accident in Sydney, Australia.

Police say the men, both 28, found the trolley and were riding it down a steep hill in the eastern suburb of Randwick just after midnight when they hit a car coming the other way.

The man who survived had just arrived in Australia - he remains in hospital and police said he could face charges.

The trolley had reached speeds of up to 80km/h (50mph), said police.

"The male that was in the shopping trolley was catapulted out landing in a kerb," Det Supt Gavin Dengate told local media.

"Unfortunately we all know what shopping trolleys are like, and they are very difficult to control [it's] very very tragic."

He said riding in a shopping trolley "must be one of the most dangerous things you can do".

The 45-year-old driver of the car, who was not injured, tested negative for drugs and alcohol.

of coping when it was 4000 a month, but once it went up to 40000 a month there was literally no way they were going to be able to keep it up. They've spent years telling people its racist to be anti immigration so now when the government need to be there's no real will to do anything worth a f**k. They've come out and said they can't take anymore but their response is to just tell refugees not to come, not actively stop them coming. Oh and they asked the EU to redistribute them among other EU nations, which won't happen.

Two days after the government went out into the media and told people not to come they then slagged off the anti immigration party for sending people to Lesbos to hand out leaflets containing informaiton to put people off coming.

One way of halfing the numbers would be to send every Afghan back. We get more Afghans than Syrians now, and they are mostly 30 year olds claiming to be 15.
