notice they don't play it on the same weekend as Arsenal Spurs and Roma Lazio.
Also notice a banner for Lewisham police there, probably expecting trouble

I mean, I know he's scored and all, but it would be nice if he had some moral support.

Just for the nostalgia of it. However, I'd be cncerned that anyone would think I was there to 'support' the team.

A school team or an adult side associated with ex-students of the school.

You will accept it is a concept with which I am completely unfamiliar.

you can see the lads in the background 'desperately' trying to keep pace.
Or, more likely, the one big lad who does everything.

I've gone a bit Paul Merson and used "lad" as I don't know anyone's name

17 year old lads at 6' 4 and 16 stone with full beards, usually.

Do you think it's quite seemly for a chap of your years to fantasise about buggering young men?

We were always taught to go in low and hard and you'd be alright.

The world cup was full of chaps tackling each other round the chest. Whatever happened to the joy of launching your face at some pointy knees going like pistons, coming at you at 20 mph?

I was off within ten minutes as someone ran towards me with the ball and to shouts of "TACKLE HIM!" I launched full into a two footed tackle, at waist height.

Apparently they were meaning I should dive head first at someone's legs whilst they were running towards me at full pelt. :hehe: Mental.

That, combined with me smoking whilst fielding - also under duress - led to my expulsion from school, later reduced to a suspension.

Berni

You gave him quite the fright.

I expected you attended some inner-city comprehensive where such sports were frowned upon.

Sir Charlie of Nicholas

There was something not entirely wholesome about that chap.

Berni

the other low. They've also outlawed the tap tackle, I think, which used to be an excellent way of bringing down large chaps while not getting hurt.

I suspect she's seeing another Elthamian at the moment, but she's being cagey about it.

I watched games recently where there were 3 or 4 scrums in the whole 80 minutes. I remember games where the hooker had to have his arms lifted around the props' shoulders, so exhausted was he from the constant scrumagging :hehe:

My second school was on Hampstead Heath and was altogether a more grammar schooley affair, though it had been reduced to a comp it refused to accept it.

They used both cricket and rugby as extra punishment for when detention wasnt quite enough.

And, as punishments go, cricket and rugby have to be up there for me.

Sir Charlie of Nicholas

I had no evidence of this, naturally.

Thank God.

I lost track of that. And there's lifting in the lineout now. And front rows aren't allowed to slam into each other anymore. And the scrum half seems to be allowed to feed it straight into the second row…

…in short, we are very :old:

You think I wouldve mentioned if Ed Miliband went to the same school as me

Sir Charlie of Nicholas
11-09-2015, 02:28 PM
If the ball's not going straight down the tunnel, what's the point in hookers competing? And lifting at the lineout used to be a specific offence, now it's standard behaviour?

Basically, they've f**ked it.

(I confess that my grasp of the offside rule was always hazy. Now I have not the first clue.)

Definitely abandoned that since you left.

Yeah you're right, would've expected a mention of the Milibands/Marlon Harewood for sure.

Dirty little swine.

The only time things go against the head are when one team completely out-scrummages another.

Also, they seem to let a lot of forward passes go these days, which irritates me.

I like to think I played a small part in them giving that up

Berni

Nothing like the sight of some giant thundering towards the try-line, only to find his legs going under him following a good ankle tap. Did the heart good.

I used to live on Crogsland Road. When they demolished the old building my car got covered in dust and vandalised. Had only just bought it. :-(
