My critical faculties have grown somewhat since I was 7. Where once I saw brilliant robots, laser fights and spaceships, I now see genuinely ****ty dialogue, long stretches of tedium (all the Yoda stuff - f**k me! :yawn:) and some really shocking acting (I'm looking at you, Hamill).

I'm glad my childhood self enjoyed it and think that - for that demographic - it was great. However, I now see its flaws and am happy to leave it in my childhood rather than chasing the same thrill I got from it as a seven year-old as a 42 year-old.

To me, there's something rather sad and unhealthy about adults yearning for their childhoods. The past should be left where it is. :shrug:

The point, I think, is that men shouldn't grow up, we don't need to grow up.

The things I found important as a sixteen year old are equally important to me today, as I have a sixteen year old son and it is my duty as a father to show all my sons how great life is, not how grown up it can be. It is this that allows men to build both the present and also the future. If past enjoyment doesn't matter then what was the point of it; how to protect it and build upon it?

After all, what would you care about the Arsenal or your cricket if they'd both been invented last week?
