That should be the slogan, tbh.

I mean, they tried to inject some reason, sense and evidence based policy into the whole business but it clearly didnt go well.

Shouldve bailed on the coalition at least 18 months before the election imo

The only time I ever recall any interest in the party was when old Jeremy Thorpe was embroiled in a spot of unseemliness

Then I realised I didn't care

I dont think anybody was served particularly well by the centre ground consensus, apart from big businesses and people wanting to fleece the state for personal gain. Look at the gap in social mobility, for instance.

Also, we're probably not really anywhere near being able to assess the impact of this latest downturn, are we?

Berni

the Great Depression with the recent downturn. You still haven't suggested for a moment that that the two are even vaguely comparable.

Berni
09-23-2015, 01:08 PM
As for 'refugees', well all I'd say is different now is that people from ****ty countries now have the cash to make it to nice ones, which they never used to. Another win for capitalism there.

Pokster

I would suggest with groth hardly above the level it was at 8 yrs ago and average earnings (until very recently) rising slower than inflation, prosperity is a hard claim to make

Classic Jorge
09-23-2015, 01:12 PM
And in terms of scale and length of the recession comet tail they could possibly be longer.

Also, I cant help but feel you're doing that "british casualties" thing here again as you've completely ignored the fact that the 2007/8 crash has had reverberations in the eurozone in 2011/12 and the far east right now.

it's the effect it's had on the peace, security and prosperity of society, which is your original argument.

Also, the main reason these people are fleeing where they are is the sheer amount of weaponry ISIS have manged to acquire through nicking all of the kit us and the US left in Iraq and buying more using the seized oilwells in the area.

1-1 (capitalism, own goal)

Ashberto
09-23-2015, 01:37 PM
The glibness with which you assume 20 years of peace is far simpler than the analysis which .. gasp ... understands the cause and effect between smashing up Iraq and Libya, and what happened next.
