After 70-1 Japan’s stunning Rugby World Cup upset of South Africa on Saturday, here are some of sport’s biggest shocks!!!!

Which is your favourite? Any shockking omissions?

No.1

James ‘Buster' Douglas v Mike Tyson, 1990 - 42/1

Winners at triple-figure odds are fairly commonplace in large-field events such as golf, but when one competitor out of two is priced at 42-1, you can safely call it an upset when they win. Those were the Vegas odds on underdog James ‘Buster' Douglas, at the time the seventh-ranked fighter in the world, when he faced a seemingly hopeless task against the undisputed and unbeaten world champion Mike Tyson in the Tokyo Dome in February 1990. Douglas knocked Tyson down for the first time in his career to win by knockout in the tenth round.

No.2 - Blackburn v Manchester Utd, 2011 - 28/1

The biggest-priced Premier League outsiders to oblige were Blackburn. Bottom-of-the-table Rovers won 3-2 at Old Trafford on New Year's Eve, 2011, with two Yakubu goals and a winner from Grant Hanley. United had gone off as 1-7 shots but two Dimitar Berbatov goals were not enough.

No.3 - Hull v Arsenal, 2008 - 20/1

The previous biggest shock in the Premier League had come three years earlier, when new boys Hull stunned Arsenal at the Emirates as 20-1 shots. The Tigers came from behind after scoring an own goal to win 2-1. Phil Brown's side had been backed at 600 on Betfair and the correct score was matched at 700 on the exchange.
Hull were the toast of the bookies as they ruined a hugely popular treble on hotpots Arsenal, Chelsea and Manchester United.

No.4 Pastor Maldonado Spanish Grand Prix, 2012 = 500/1

Pastor Maldonado has a Dick Dastardly reputation in F1, the nickname Crashtor sticking with him for obvious reasons.
But the error-prone Venezuelan kept it on the track for a sensational win at Barcelona in 2012. The start of that season saw some mixed results due to tyre changes and bookmakers were slow to react to the potential of the Williams. Maldonado began the weekend as an unconsidered 500-1 shot and was still 12-1 after taking pole position before delivering a victory. Olivier Panis's Monaco win in 1996 was the previous F1 record holder at 300-1. He triumphed from 14th on the grid as only three cars finished.

No.5 Jelena Dokic v Martina Hingis, 1999 - 16/1

Martina Hingis was twice a victim of first-round shockers at Wimbledon. World number one and top seed Hingis was crushed 6-2 6-0 by 16-year-old Dokic, the world number 129, in 1999. And two years later she went out again to unsung Virginia Ruano Pascual, the world number 83, 6-4 6-2. There is no price available for that upset as bookmakers had only priced up those contests with the favourite 1-33 or bigger, but in the aftermath an odds-compiler surmised that Hingis would have gone off as a 1-50 or 1-80 chance.

No.6 - Hercules v Barcelona, 2010 - 33/1

The most humbling moment of mighty Barcelona's recent history saw them lose 2-0 to minnows Hercules, who had the strength to pull off a shock in September 2010. Barcelona had not lost a home league game for 16 months and were just 1-14 to take three points, with Hercules matched at 100 on Betfair. Coach Pep Guardiola rested Xavi, Pedro, Sergio Busquets and Carles Puyol ahead of a Champions League mission but still had Lionel Messi, David Villa and Andres Iniesta in his starting line-up.

No.7 - New Zealand v Australia 2008 Rugby League World Cup final 13/2

The price doesn't sound that big, but in a global final 13-2 suggested there was something of a surprise when New Zealand overcame mighty Australia in 2008. The Aussies had been a best-priced 3-10 to lift the trophy at the start of the tournament and were just 1-9 by kick-off.

No.8 - Cameroon v Argentina, 1990 World Cup 22/1

A Francois Oman Biyik strike gave victory in the World Cup's opening game to the Indomitable Lions, who were down to nine men. Hosts Argentina had been 1-4 to see off Claude Le Roy's men.

No.9 - Inverness Caledonian Thistle v Celtic, 2000 - 18/1

The match which spawned the famous Super Caley Go Ballistic, Celtic Are Atrocious headline. The Highlanders' win was certainly atrocious news for anyone who backed John Barnes's Celtic at 1-6 for the Scottish Cup third-round tie at Parkhead as they lost 3-1.

No.10 - Kenya v West Indies, 1996 - 20/1

Only two West Indies batsmen reached double-figures as they were bowled out for 93 in this cricket calamity. Kenya lost the toss and looked done for after being bowled out for 166. But the Windies recorded their lowest World Cup total.

I've a vague hunch that the Football archives can reveal far greater acts of giant killing than this p.
