A cynic would suggest there's some sort of concerted effort to defund a lot of these things so they can be sold off to somebody's mate.

And let's be honest here, taking in a fair share of people would - if spread properly across a country of 60m people - not be beyond neither the wit or generosity of a nation like ours, should it?

We've absorbed masses of people facing all sorts of hardships including the hugenots, the jewish, the kenyans, yugoslavs, somalis etc over hundreds of years. Indeed, it's often been of decided long-term benefit.

And any way, it would seem to me we're doing a fantastic job of dismantling our own culture all by ourselves. I doubt an infantesimal number of people, because that's what it is, would do much to change that.
