where to drink, where to eat and so forth. All I know it was bombed during WWII.....and on google maps it looks like a town way passed its sell-by date....:hide:

Coventry is the most repulsive hovel in the UK. (Other candidates include Wolverhampton, Stoke and Middlesbrough.)

largely because I spent all my money on recreational pharmaceuticals, I suppose, which are probably the reason for some fond memories of the place, rather than any great intrinsic qualities of the city.

Spon Street is where they moved all the old buildings that survived the Blitz and the concrete rebuild of the centre, so have a look there. Gosford Street used to be quite good for pubs.

Well it did have unless the Bridge nazis have had their way.

And the fact that they beat Spurs in the cup, of course.

I have only been to Coventry once, 1993 at a guess. Coventry v West Ham. I drank far too much. I left.

As reviews go that is it.

I sometimes feel I'm the only true patriot in this place. Despite the jingoistic guff that people spout, they hate their country. :-(

....by the sound of it , it was a very good piss up that motivated this visit?

I love my country very much, a; one may love a person but not their fungal infections, surely?

If you're staying at the hotel, you might get a room that faces onto the football pitch - which is quite fun

All of my (Irish) friends were attending U2 at Wembley Stadium on that day, the Zooropa tour I think.

This would not have been my thing, not at all.

Other chums, football team mates, were going up and down to Coventry for said game and associated pintage.

This would have been my thing, very much.

would put 'speck to you later'

I assumed Speck was some sort of slang or some 'cool' term.

Turns out she was just very stupid and couldn't spell speak.

But on the positive side she managed to get to have one practice session with the Coventry Blaze hockey team. I assume as she probably had nailed them all. Probably at the same time from what I have heard.

Strange easy going girl. After I didn't bother to speak to her for a while she then said 'I could go out with her friend as I have a boyfriend now.' if I wanted to.

Suicide is painless, but it is not something to joke about.

I'm not very good at keeping in touch with people. Great engineering tradition in Coventry Climax, of course. From Jorge's Jaguar to F1 engines.

She was an aristocrat suffering from schizophrenia and too much LSD. Bloody nuisance to live with, tbh. Sad though.

had sex in it - hope that isn't too off-putting

There is a statue of Jimmy Hill outside the arena itself. And a casino on-site.

As mad as a box of frogs this chap, but essentially harmless.

Stole the baby Jesus once from the Xmas 'crib' thing in the town centre. Took him home as he thought he looked cold.
