Turns out Arsenal hating journo**** Jacon Steinberg was on board and, of course, did the obvious thing and videod passengers getting evacuated as soon as he was off the plane himself.

Presumably if the fire had started about 30 seconds later we are talking about hundreds of deaths? *gulp*

which is the highest speed at which, on that day, on that runway, with that temperature and at that weight, the aircraft could come to a halt on the runway. They didn't make a stop/go decision, they just did what the rules say; but if the fire had occurred after V1, they would have taken off, and there is a decent chance that the airflow would have put the fire out, at which point you have a simple single-engined emergency landing.

Obviously there is a chance that the fire would have been too powerful to be blown out, like the Concorde incident, in which case Vegas would have been filled with the smell of roasting meat.

they would shut down the engine that was on fire and could circle and make an emergency landing on the good engine.

V-2 is the speed which an aircraft can takeoff with one engine out of use.

The aeronautic vinegar strokes, if you will.

already caused, though.

And yes, of course they have fire bottles. I'm guessing, just guessing mind, that the crew may have thought of firing them. It would appear that they weren't able to deal with this particular fire.

The type of people who go to Vegas, as you say.

I'd have them arrested and charged with attempted murder.
