Aren't the boats they're travelling on worth about 500 quid tops? They certainly don't look all that.

I know it's not really the point but just sayin ya know.

There is a logic to that, I suppose, but Jorge's point from a while back about the imbalance of population density and prosperity under market forces is a fair one, I think, which doesn't seem to be able to correct itself.

If everybody wants to live where the affluence is, or percieved to be, and tries to do, then either the cost of living in those places spins upwards and out of control (as is happening in London), or the places become so undesirable because of overcrowding and other problems that no-one wants to go there any more. IE- When Britain is worse than Somalia, Somalians will no longer wish to move here.

The concept of freedom of movement of labour is a wonderful thing, but in practice it is only certain to benefit those who enjoy the supply of cheap labour, rather than those who are having the value of their labour cheapened, while the cost of living increases. Those who seek votes in unlimited immigration will also seek unlimited immigration.

And since when did Pakistan and Bangladesh become part of Syria - quite a few of them doing the "refugee" thing.... :sherlock:
