Town Cup. Black school shoes, PE shorts - you get the picture.

The whole competition was a bit of a farce, tbh. In 7 years at the school we won the competition 7 times. Not once were we bowled out and not once did we bowl the full allocation of overs.

The County/National Cup was what it was all about. Our games against Bryanston, Canford, Dauntsey's and Millfield were the days we actually got to play against people that could actually play cricket.

It's true that the club system is pretty much the only way that state school pupils can learn the game. And even that's not cheap.

The kit costs too much, you need properly maintained grounds, indoor and outdoor practice areas, plus the ball is hard and nobody wants to get sued. Basically, there is f**k all chance of cricket ever getting back into most state schools. :-(

THATCHER SOLD OFF THE SPORTS FIELDS*.

*I have no idea how many cricket pitches were involved but it seemed a shot too cheap to miss. Though Theo would have missed it, obviously.

Also, we're not discounting the fact it's a **** game which takes days to play and nobody likes it because they dont have the attention span noawadays, are we?

Also, I remember playing cricket in school - which wasnt un-posh - and nobody knew the rules or liked the game.
