He's an enormous punt at that price. Schneiderlin, fair enough.. You could make a case for saying that if Wenger really wanted him, he could have signed him long before LvG started sniffing around.

Other than City, I'm not convinced we've lost that much ground in terms of squad depth against our main PL rivals.
In terms of the CL, we remain miles behind the usual suspects.. You can only conclude that Wenger doesn't see that as a priority :-(
