i wasn't much of a fan of the Scream series, too post modern and self referential to be properly scary, but I grew up on Nightmare on Elm Street films and The Hills Have Eyes.

The Hills Have Eyes, especially, was just such a great horror film and for my money knocks Texas Chainsaw Massacre into a cocked hat, showing that you can do so much more with essentially the same premise, so long as you invest a little more into a better set of characters.

It also didn't have that irritating tit in a wheelchair in it.

I quite liked Scream :hide: The first one not the rubbish sequels

Eyes, which contains one of the more disturbing scenes ever committed to celluloid:

Mind you, the rest of the film is absolute ****.

I've never heard of the dude but then I am not into movies in that way.

He's no John Craven all the same.

of Wes Craven and to a somewhat lesser extent Robert Englund. Fair enough though that both names are much better known that side of the pond.

Still, any serious self proclaimed movie buff should hang themselves if they're not at least familiar with Mr. Craven's work in the 70s and 80s. He brought the scare and cheese factors to unequivocal levels

I have been compared to many things in my time, few as low as you have just stooped.

I watch movies / films, I like them or I do not like them.

I will very often recognise the actors and in respect of some very major films I will be aware of the people behind the camera.

The whole horror thing has never worked for me though so I genuinely would have no idea who Wes Craven is, or was (I assume he is now dead).

sometimes I can do nothing but admire the sheer amount of effort you must put into your ignorance

I don't look at who directs a film or whatever so on that basis, coupled with the fact that the scary film genre is not one that I would have ever watched, I would have no exposure to him and his work.

Obviously I would be aware of your average Lucas, Speilberg, Tarantino, Scorsese chaps.

Some channel ran them all weekend. Did you know there was a Smokey and the Bandit III? Don't think Burt was even in that one.
