I haven't had any for years; I'm occasionally tempted but usually just think 'Do I really need to spend 120 quid on an hors d'oeuvre'? I suppose if it really were that good, I would.

I like it very much though. Even the rubbish they give you in Russia. Blinis, caviar, sour cream and ice cold vodka makes for a most pleasant nibble.

Picture the fuss of the silver tray, the little bowls of chopped egg and wotnot, the mother-of-pearl caviar spoon - all adding to the sense of occasion and bringing an air of decadence to the evening.

The spoon, of course, is used only to transport the caviar from the bowl to the hand, whence it is licked.
