clogs hailing the new era of Cechness (I wasn't one) are now the same ones wailing he's useless BUT we're still short of a proper 2nd defensive midfielder, we've got loadsamoney and barely spent a penny. Don't we WANT to kick on from last season???

Also, wasnt the main issue last season that everyone was drained from the world cup coupled with the fact we didnt have the best luck with injuries?

Apart from Kondogbia and Schneiderlin I'm not entirely sure that anybody who has moved would improve us.

Two games, you need to sit back and relax a little and let the season develop.

You correctly point out mistakes that could be attributed to Cech v West Ham, though crucially both goals also featured errors from other players which in turn made Cech’s life more difficult.

You could also in his defence point to an excellent save in the Charity Shield from a Chelsea free-kick which given their ascendancy at the time probably caused us to not lose that game. He also made a very good save on Sunday, though his positioning made the save look rather easy, which in turn allowed us 3 points.

Honestly, 38 games, 36 to go. You cannot keep this up.

and how we once again seem on the verge of not improving a team which doesn't need that much to make it compete for the big prizes - and when we have loads of money too.

By the time the window reopens it will be 20 games gone, not 2, so this question is relevant NOW.

We also have more or less a full squad of players in basic numeric terms, some of whom are extremely good footballers but will not feature in the first 11, others are being asked to play slightly out of position but being intelligent professional footballers they should be able to adapt.

Now you may want a new midfield resource as indeed so may I, but at this point of the summer and having seen a player like Schneiderlinn move who arguably was a perfect fit for us you must being to accept it is probably not going to happen. Similarly if we were ever really in for the Polish lad at Sevilla then the timing of a move now would make no sense at all. Indeed Arteta’s brief appearance on Sunday was encouraging and despite our reservations it is easier to forget he is a very good footballer.

Up top? Again we may both agree that an upgrade would be nice, may yet happen but when you see Giroud score a goal as he did last Sunday you can understand why there may be a reluctance to do so, especially when coupled with the other resources we already have. As I have said before, new expensive striker means Giroud leaving (imo) and I simply cannot see that happening or Wenger wishing that to happen.

little pace but we don't need to have a big no. 9 for every game. But if we have the money we should be thinking big now, not wait for the current crop to start fading or leaving se we require a reboot.

Would you seriously suggest spending what would amount to a world record fee, and no doubt wages, on Pogba would be a good idea?

Also, a quick look at the agents of the players in question might suggest that they arent goers.

and another who starts every game for Barca, can't see him leaving (or being let go)

And as none of them have actually moved, how have we missed out on them?

probably half a dozen others, cheaper than those and yet an improvement on Flamini/Arteta. We're supposed to be a big club now right?

won't take it. We can afford to have round pegs in round holes etc, if need be sell some of our similar-type talent in midfield.

He is not a chap that moves clubs unless the decision is entirely his own.

I do struggle a little at the ageing triumverate of him, Rosicky and Arteta all being retained but who am I to question. Football wise I don’t think Flamini has much to offer and it would appear that Rosicky is again banjaxed though of course we did renew his deal while being aware of this (perhaps not the full extent).

And if it does then I am f**ked as to who it will be. I note one of our annual alleged targets played in Europe for Leverkusen the other night thus meaning he is out of scope.
