View Full Version : I'm slightly curious about the etiquette of e-cigarettes and people's attitudes towards them

Given that they are safe, usually smell of nothing but strawberries and the breathe out doesnt contain anything other than vapour they should essentially be socially acceptable to use anywhere - house, office, public transport.

However, there seems to be an unwritten acceptance that they are still smoking so are treated as bad, and thus are banished to the grey shelters and doorways.

Do non-smokers object to e-cigarettes, do they object to them more or less than cigarettes and if so what sort of rough percentage?

assumed it was cigarette smoke, which does irritate me a bit, because of the smell which I don't like. But I obviously quickly realised it was vapour and so didn't mind at all.

...no scientific evidence whatsoever. Thus you get bans and restrictions on their use in Wales, for instance.

This, of course, is from the lobby who have always claimed that their major motivation is to eliminate the health risks posed by smoking. And yet, when presented with a technology that does exactly that, they immediately attack it. Why? Because they hate anything that even looks like or reminds people of smoking. Their kneejerk response to any such thing is 'Ban it!'.

Fundamentally, anti-smokers are total and utter c**ts.

Borderline market research given the tone of your interrogation at the end.

For the record I have no problem with them, I don’t care either if a person chooses to smoke, it is his or her decision.

Vaping however does indubitably make you look like a homosexual.

icky, when you think about it.

The thing is, very little else actually comes out whereas exhaled cigarette smoke has tar and all sorts of other stuff in it.

Dont take this the wrong way but I'm faintly surprised you didnt mind, you do sometimes come across as the type that minds stuff, in an endearing Larry David-esque way, mind.

exhalations. All mixed up with diesel particulates, flies, dead skin, microscopic flecks of dog**** and lingering sneeze particles.

Now I come to think of it, those Japanesers wearing surgical masks may have a point.

They seem almost at the level of homeopaths, prepared to act on the basis of knee-jerk doctrinal whims.

It's funny that a lot of the positive evidence just gets discounted out of hand.

pathological weakness and addiction which you are happy to show in public..whilst not even drinking or doing drugs.

I just think no..and no I don't like people doing it in office as its annoying plus people who didn't even smoke much get one of them and on it non stop.

finally they will soon discover its killing you anyway and people around you, its only time

So, man up , don't be addicted to nicotine or any drug butwhen you hit one hit them all hard and properly, smoke , drink and pharmascuticals , once or twice a week MAX then nothing else the rest of the time except over exercise.

:) basically what was your question and who gives a f**k ? if you like it why give a monkeys ball bag hat people think ?grow a pair J and do what you like..f**k me you are so needy and wanting approval its driving me f**king mad

Milk. He said he started off on tobacco flavour and moved on to milk and strawberries. Now he's gone hardcore and is on the pure milk stuff.

He was from Chesterfield and supports Leeds. So I guess that explains a lot.

I was told that they often wear those masks not to avoid breathing in, but because they have a cold themselves and don't want to impose it on others.

We all know the reason why many kids start smoking is because it looks cool, they cannot enjoy it (at first). Those who are not overcome with nausea may persevere and in time enjoy it, become ‘addicted’ or whatever.

I think we can say with 100% certainty that no teenager is ever going to vape on the basis that it may attract chicks, being the primary aim of all teenage boys.

As an adult I understand the concept of vaping as step 1 on the long road to beating addiction and stopping smoking, those who want to stop of course having decided to on either a) health grounds or b) that is seen by society as a filthy habit.

You still cannot do so without looking like a homosexual.

p.s. For the record and without one word of a lie on my walk into work this morning I briefly listened to Searching for the Young Soul Rebels by Dexys Midnight Runners, the only chaps ever capable of wearing a donkey jacket and not looking like a council waste material removal operative.

I miss it, but can't be doing with tobacco joints and am far too old to get involved with bongs and such. Vaping would be ideal.

I get a bit irritated when I walk into cigarette smoke. However unless I feel the smoker is being particularly inconsiderate with, I generally feel no compulsion to wish the bad cancer on them.

to tell people what they can and can't do than in any notion of 'public health'.

Scratch anyone who claims the public health to be their main motivation and you'll generally find an authoritarian puritan killjoy not far below the surface imo.

It proves what many of us have always suspected - that the anti-smoking lobby was never about health, but about asserting a moral superiority. Furthermore, anti-smoking is just one of the themes from the pulpit. All kinds of health and eco crusades are treated the same way.
