A signed football for whoever guesses their identity first.

than if you are just a normal person.

In this case, of course, it isn't lack of clarity, it's plainly not bothering to do any research, ie his usual MO.

Now as it happens, Frimley and I both attended Mart Poom's first and only start for the Arsenal, away to Pompey. It was also Graham Poll's last ever Premiership match as referee.

Chief memory of the match is actual the appalling standard of some of the fancy dress outfits in the away end (not inlcuding Frimley and myself, before you ask).

This explains plenty.

I meant only that everyone should express themselves clearly, but that those of us who set ourselves out as professional writers should if anything be better at doing so than those who have not.

I have not the slightess doubt that you are much better at customs forms than me, but I would never suggest that such a miniscule detail should define you.

fag in the corner of the mouth, hammering away at the typewriter to get the C1134 completed before the customs bloke knocked off shift and took his stamp home with him... those were the days. Proper glamour. None of your computer nonsense.

Anyway. You're much better at counting fivers than me.

They seem to have rather become redundant. Tenners are a minimum for something of much value now. Anything above 20 quid and you're using a card, anything under a tenner you might well also be using a card (contactlessly).

This is a long way since the excitement over the introduction of pound coins. I remember getting a pound coin holder somewhere on the south coast during a Scout camp in the 80s. Then I saw one on sale on the south cosat this summer and realised that they've pretty much disappeared from view in between.

or ever in fact

Are you implying you and Frimley had a superior standard of costume?

Both Frimley and I were much better costumed than the average away fan. In that we were wearing normal clothes.

I recall that there was a particular fad for Batman and Robin costumes, only more travelling gooners had come as Robin than Batman (van Persie was still popular in those days). They were, almost without exception, far too tight for comfort (either in being worn or in being observed). I will see if I can locate a picture on my iPad.

A single pint if one is first to the pub. Half ounce of baccy for those of us determined not to trouble the taxpayer by being alive in the later years.

And so on.
