Brixton, Camberwell, Bermonsdey, Peckham and Rotherhithe, but the Earl's Sluice and River Peck are on the list of lost rivers of London so their courses have to be walked. Even if they are in South London.
Interestingly these two hidden rivers converge on a spot approximately on Millwall's football ground, the New Den, (they were playing at home on Saturday) so we visited it twice, and by my rough and disconcerting calculations we would get there the second time around about the time of the final whistle. Which we did. Furthermore, having walked up the street by the ground with a couple of minutes to go it turned out to be blocked (another slum concrete block was being demolished), so we had to retrace our steps back to the ground with seconds to go. And then a great, but non-liony roar went up as Coventry's fourth goal went in.
15 minutes before I had been trying to explain to Ms A why I didn’t really want to be standing outside of Millwall’s ground at the final whistle with a map in hand and trying to work out which way to go. She thought I was being over-concerned but by the time we reached the comfort of the Ship and Whale pub on the Thames she understood that Bermondsey is not like the Holloway Road.
Anyway. We lived.
