View Full Version : Jorge, is it okay to mention the word 'desire' when talking about Sanchez's header?

Given that he's 4 foot and shouldn't really be winning headers like that.

Great desire from the lad. (really though)

To be fair to j, I don't think he's sugested that there is no place for these cliche'd characteristics in the game, just that other things, like skill, vision and technical ability, are also important.

At least, I think that's what he means.

fwiw, I do agree to an extent, and feel it's excatly the reason why Ox was dropped, despite ostensibly having a rather decent game against WHAM the other week.

b...b...b...b..but he's english! So what, he needs to get more ruthless imo.

My main issue with the unconscious stream of cliches is that it's somehow seen as the panacea to all footballing ills when in fact it's often a bunch of more complex factors.

Yaya Sanogo has plenty of passion etc, he just plays like someone barely on nodding terms with his legs.

Yes, boring old hard work and industry. Learning your trade, putting a shift in and so on.

One of the great joys of football is that, on a day you feel your touch isn't quite right, your timing is off or your form is just poor, you can forget entirely about playing football and still make a contribution to the team by running around a lot; but the concentration on hard work to the detriment of all else explains a lot about the state of the national team for 40 years.

Ross Barkley used to do it all the time. So much so Hodgson criticised him in the press for it. They'll learn when and where to try and beat players.

or rather, the attitude to them is why England gave the world the game, while those that are actually good at it didn't.

Football is for everyone, not just fanny-dancing midfielders if they happen to fancy it that day.

my opinion but seen enough (and heard) enough of Barkley to be convinced of that

but whereas only the colonies and/or near-neighbours took to cricket and rugby, *everyone* wanted to play football. (Except the North Americans.)

Just digest that for a moment.
