[Jimmy is explaining to Reggie what kinds of people his secret army will be against]
Jimmy Anderson: Wreckers of law and order. Communists, Maoists, Trotskyists, neo-Trotskyists, crypto-Trotskyists, union leaders, Communist union leaders, atheists, agnostics, long-haired weirdos, short-haired weirdos, vandals, hooligans, football supporters, namby-pamby probation officers, rapists, papists, papist rapists, foreign surgeons - headshrinkers, who ought to be locked up, Wedgwood Benn, keg bitter, punk rock, glue-sniffers, "Play For Today", Clive Jenkins, Roy Jenkins, Up Jenkins, up everybody's, Chinese restaurants - why do you think Windsor Castle is ringed with Chinese restaurants?
Reginald Perrin: You realise the sort of people you're going to attract, don't you, Jimmy? Thugs, bully-boys, psychopaths, sacked policemen, security guards, sacked security guards, racialists, [racist term removed]-bashers, queer-bashers, Chink-bashers, anybody-bashers, rear Admirals, queer admirals, Vice Admirals, fascists, neo-fascists, crypto-fascists, loyalists, neo-loyalists, crypto-loyalists.
Jimmy Anderson: Do you think so? I thought recruitment might be difficult.

Mountbatten was to be installed as Governer of the junta.

Some say it was the lily-livered lefties in MI5 who lost their bottle, unable to find absolute proof that Wilson was working for the KGB. Although what proof they needed, other than watching him turn this country in to yet another failed state under the hammer and sickle, I can't imagine.

What might have been. If only... :sigh:

Besides, these were soldiers who had taken an oath to 'be faithful and bear true allegiance to Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth, her heirs and successors, according to law. So help me God', weren't they? How on earth could they have reconciled that with overturning a Government that - whatever one may have thought of it - had been appointed and approved by Her Majesty?

It strikes me that any soldier who behaved in such a way would be nothing but a traitor.

There was, allegedly, support from Buckingham Palace.

planks - or just really disliked Canadians. And Prince Charles hero-worshipped him, which goes against him.

And it doesn't matter if there was support from Buckingham Palace, since the whole 'according to law' bit means that any actions counter to the law would have been a transgression of the oath.
